Why Photoshop Was Invented

The number of Photoshop competitions is either growing exponentially, or I’ve just happened to come across a few of them in the last few days by luck.

Anywhale, over at Bleach eating freaks there was a call to Photoshop a new batch of iPod ads.

Whilst there were quite a few humurous and well-thought out entries, this is my favourite.

Out With Stout, White Is Right

No, not some racist slur intended to belittle the proud Stouter folk, but a slogan I’ve penned to earn myself a (possible) little bit of extra cash in a competition. Let me explain.

Falcon, a well-known brewery in Sweden, have introduced two new beers to their assortment: Wheat and Stout. For a limited time one can go into their website and vote for your favourite and the eventual winner will become a regular brew.

Ever Since Jo introduced me to wheat-bear (Erdinger was the first, I think) I have had a taste for it, and even a wheat-bear that has has all the goodness extracted (i.e. alcohol), I still stand by its side. The latest advert gave Falcon Weiss a 2 or 3% lead. Things are hotting up in my sad, sorry life.

Skype Rules

I can wholly understand why ebay bought Skype last month. If I’d had the $2.6 billion dollars available I’d have considered the purchase myself. Not, however, because of the free calls one can make to other Skype users, nor for the sound quality that befits a broadband connection.

No, I love Skype because it’s (possibly) the only polite answer you can give to the sales reps of telephone companies who ring up and ask you if you’re interested in what they have to offer because it beats “X”, their competitor by five…oh, Skype? In that case I wish you a good evening. Good-bye.

The four or five times we have had such calls have always, always, ended quickly and without argument. Skype, I salute you.

A Day Of Learning

I’ve wanted to learn two HMTL-related things for a while now, though as easy as it is I have never got round to doing it, until today that is.

First of all, we have this, which I’ve seen on numerous sites, but been stupidly unaware it was a simple tag. The other, which will be far less used, but equally interesting to know, was that those this. Actually two tags, of which the second, insert (which gives the underline, will be less useable, since it looks similar to an external link.

I feel I have achieved something in my life today.

The Office (In American!)

I love Ricky Gervais, and I love The Office. I was horrified, then, when I learned that there was going to be an American version. “It’ll never, ever work,” I thought. “The subtlety will be lost in a typical American kind of way,” I bemoaned. “It’ll be shite,” I secretly knew.

I saw the first episode last night, and I must say…it was pretty good, apart from the fact that the lead character overacts, which itself may just be him adapting it for the American audience. I was surprised just how alike the two versions are, though I cannot stop thinking about the English version whenever I see a copied expression or camera jerk.

I take back all I thought I knew about The Office (v.2): It just proves that Mr Gervais can do no wrong in any country.
